PARAPARA DOAD .
To the Editor
Sir,--.ire the Wanganui people aware of the progress now being made on the Paraps rrv road? There have been two gangs of contractors (contracts of a few chains each), consisting of about three or four men, working on the Parapara road between the Taukoro and Otoko for the past week, and it is also reported that one more small job of a tew chains has been let. It would Ixs interesting to know who is responsible for such a spurt, and why we Wanganui people are so easily satisfied. Is this ridiculous state of things to be credited to the Minister, or to the Departmental officials- This point should bo ascertained. We also hear that the small portion of the road formed thii year is without culverts, and is suffering considerably from the storm watei' being unable to escape, until it breaki ovor and carries away portions of the road with it. Surely this, is a matter that some responsible officer, of the Department should be spared to attend to, as such a state of affairs must tend to diminish the sum available for expenditure in forming further sections of the read. As far as we are able to learn, the Inspectors are kept so busy in the office that they have no time to devote to the actual superintendence of the work on the ground. Are there no clerks in the office to attend to of«co dutaP-I am, etc^
