Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Dustin, of Wanganui, are passengers by the Ruapehu, which is expected to arrive in Auckland about Wednesday. Mar M. J. Mahoney, of the local telegraph office, left on Saturday for Maiigaweka, where he will act as" relieving officer for a month.
Mr District Judge Kettle was in town on Saturday and went on to Auckland by the express. ■ Mr J. G Woolley, the celebrated American temperance lecturer, wi'l occupy St. Paul's pulpit on Sunday morning next. The-funeral of the Hon.. J. T. Peacock, M.L.C., took place at Linwood Cemetery on Saturday afternoon. It was attended by . a large number of friends and representatives of the different bodies and companies with which the deceased had been connected.
The Dunedin correspondent of tho " Lyttelton Times" states that it is understood that Mr T. H. Ham<jr, popularly, known on the secretarial staff of the Premier will succeed Mr Huntly Eliott (who is retiring on pension) as under-secretary in the Mines Department.
