WELLINGTON, October 20. The weather was wet and windy for the first day of the Wellington Racing Club's meeting. The attendance was noi up to the average, and the course was very heavy. The double event tote on Wellington Handicap and Flying Handicap returned a dividend of £65 7s. to iourteen investors. The day's tote receipts amounted to £9992, as against £rfo73 on tha corresponding day last- year. Results : — October Hurdles.—South Star 1, Taxpayer 2. Florio 3. Also started: Black Squall, The Dauber, Waimata, St. Amelia. Won by six lengths. Diviciends, £3 4s. and 14s. Shorts Handicap.—Medallist 1, Coxswain 2, Hinurewa 3. Also started: Boris, Martello, Kudu. Won by threequarters of a length. Dividends, £4 and £3 9s.
Wellington Handicap.—St. Joe 1, Lyrist 2, Signalman 3. Also started: Achilles, Mahutonga. Black Reynard, Auratus, Shrapnel Shell, Flamen, Blythemaid. Hukaaka. Won by a head, a neck separating the second and third. Time, 2 mins. 17 3-5 sees. Dividends, £6 11s. and £2 Bs. Flying Handicap.—Prelude 1, Sir Tristram 2, St. Ciaimer 3. Also started: Exmoor. Won by a length. Time, 1 mm. 20 2-5 sees. Dividend, £3 10s. Rimutaka Hack Handicap.—Matakoriri 1, Aorangi 2, Gazeley 3. Also started: Perdita, Grand Poplar, Flotilla, Pat, Balsam ; Whakakaho. Won bya length and a half. Dividends, £0 3s. and £2 ss.
Wellesley Stakes.—Kirriemuir 1, Ivanoff 2,' Zimmerman 3. Also started : Knastikoff, Mungista, KuraAvaka. Won by three lengths. Time, 52 4-5 sees. Dividends, £4 and £1. Wainui Handicap.—Ghoorka 1, Regulation 2, Kudu 3. Also started: CanLie Chiel, Clanburn, Veneer, Wind, Noneen. Won by six lengths. Dividendsj £3 13s. and £1 2s. Spring Hack Handicap.—The Seer 1, Aberration 2, Pas Seul 3. Also started: Truce, Kaiuku, Waikakaho, Devonia. Won by three-quarters of a length. Dividends, £9 10s. and £2 Is.
