CELEBRATION IN CHRISTCHURCH.
OHRISTCHURCH, October 20. The Trafalgar Day celebrations, which were held in fine but dull weather, consisted of a demonstration in Hagley Park by the Volunteers and cadets, who saluted the flag and performed manoeuvres, and a successful concert in the evening. The celebrations were under the auspices of the Navy League.
Trafalgar was celebrated very quietly in Wanganui. The Government offices and a few warehouses cksed. The school children celebrated the event by functions at their respective schools. At the District High School, at 2 o'clock, the pupils 'were drawn up in front of the building, and saluted the flag. Mr William Bruce, chairman of the School Committee, delivered an appropriate speech, after which a verse of the " Red, White, and Blue" wa6 sung, and oak trees in commemoration of the event were planted by Mrs James Aitken and Miss Jessie Maclaehlan. The flag was also dipped in honour of the French and English, sailors who fell at Trafalgar. At the Queen's Park School a similar function took place, the scholars being addressed by the Rev. A. Dewdney and Mr J. G. Browne. The flag was saluted and two oak trees planted. The proceedings terminated with " God Save the King" and three cheers for .ho British Navy. At Mrs Hoey's school the children were addressed by Mr G. Sprisgens (member of the School Committee) an.l Mr F. Webb Jones. Mrs: Hoey and litt c .Miss Spriggens planted comhiemoMti ?e oaks. .
