In the House, in reply to a question, Mr Deakin stated that negotiations were proceding with the Japanese oonsul, having general l-eference to the Immigration Restriction Act. It was untrue that the object of the negotiations was to restrict tihe number of immigrants from Japan, and the Government are considering if it is possible to restate the general principles of the restriction policy without altering the substance so as to meet the susceptibilities of the Japanese.
