THE ANGLICAN SYNOD

AUCKLAND, October Iff. In the Anglican Synod to-day a <hs*uss!on took place upon the liquor question. The Rev. P. Smallfield moved— {l) " That the Synod approves of the principle of local option in the matter of the liquor traffic, and (2) recommemb •Church people to vote ' No-License' at the approaching poll." Upon the advice of the Bishop the second part of the motion was withdrawn. After a short discussion the first part was carried.

The Bible in schools question Avas also considered. The Synod decided to adopt, a resolution urging Church people to do'their utmost-to further the objects of the Bible-in-Sehools Referendum, League. It was iresoilved, on the motioai of Archdeacon Walsh, to commend to the Chivrehmen of New Zealand a proposal to erect a memorial cross on the spot where the first Christian service was held in the colony by the Rev. S. 'Marden, at Bay of Islands, on Christmas Day, 1814.
