The Mikado's remarkable rescript thanked the army and navy for their unprecedented victories, and in realising the full purposes of the war. He expressed profound sympathy with the sufferers, yet reminded them that Heaven sent tho duties owing to thoir ancestors and the nation. These duties had been well discharged.
