SYDNEY, October 17. A vessel from the Solomon Islandsbrings the news of the foundering of the American four-masted barque Susquehanna. The orew, two passengeVvS,. Captain Elwell and his wife, .arrived in.* boats safely at the Solomons on September 3. The Susquebanna left Nehone,. New Caledonia, on August 23 forthe Delaware Breakwater with a oa<rgo> of chrome ore. She ran into bad weathershortly after being a couple of days-: out. The barque opened out gradually,, and filled with water. After a consultation her offioars decided to abandons her. A heavy sea -was running, and*" after much difficulty" they succeeded in-; launching the boats with all safely on* board. They shaped their course- forthe Solomons, 500 miles .distant. Thejourney occupied a week, and they suffered great privations owing to exposureto bad weather and" th© sh&rb supplyof food and water.■:" All behaved splendidly, especially Mrs'Elweil.
