INVERCARGILL, October 16. Robert Watson, overseer on the Castlerock station, was drowned while crossing the Oreti River on horseback. The river was in flood, and swept him from the saddle.
# GISBORNE, October 16. The District Coroner has received advice that the 'body washed up on the beach >at Waikari is believed to be that of Dinon, who was drowned in the Mohaka River on July 16.
GISBORNE, October 16. A native child, aged 18 months, died at Tolago Bay yesterday from (the doctor states) ptomane poisoning. Another child is in a, critical condition. They (had on Saturday been given slices of meat freshly opened. The natives at first absolutely refused to allow a postmort«o\ or inquest, but by tact Constable iMcLeod (who has charge there) succeeded in obtaining the consent of the natives, and an inquest will be held to-morrow.
