QUOITS.

Saturday afternoon saw a goodly company of enthusisastic quoitists meet on Rotunda Hill, to open the season's play by a match between teams captained respectively by Messrs. Thomson and Infield. Two rounds were played, and a number of good games resulted, the former player's side winning by tho handsome majority of 89 points. Among the players were a number of raw recruits, who will require some training ero they develop into good marksmen. After the rounds were ended a singlehanded game was entered upon by four first-class players, which lasted over an hour, and which was marked by excellent play by all four. It was no easy matter '"'to get- your finger in the pie" with eight quoits often times lying within a circle of 12 inches. The games resulted as under:—Thomson 21, with 2 pairs and 2 ringers; Trantvetter, 14, with 1 pair and 1 ringer (left when Thomson stood at 18); Ruscoe, 13, with 2 pairs and 1 ringer; and Paterson, though playing well, only scored 3. Altogether the club has a good prospect of a successful campaign before it. Its strength may be reckoned from 30 to 40, and among these a team of 12 oould be picked able^to meet and, vanquish any team in New Zealand outside ol: Otago and Southland. An interclub match with Opaki is contemplated early, and a tournament will be started iii November, probably. Subjoined "afo tho scores-:— ;, ' -
