AUCKLAND A. AND P. SHOW.
Per Press Association.
AUCKLAND, November 27. The Auckland Provincial Agricultural Association's Show opened to-day, and promises to be a thorough success. There was an unusually large attendance for the first day. The catttle classes were reftnarkabie for a distinct improvement in nearly all breeds, particularly among pedigree Jerseys, which by competent judges were declared to be the finest collection of this breed ever seen in the colony. Pedigree Shorthorns were another class which represent one of the finest collections of its breed ever seen at the Auckland Show.
The number of horses entered was not so great as last year. On the whole the show is a fair one, and some of the classes are decidedly good; but on the other hand several are distinctly below show form.
The entries in the sheep classes are about as numerous as usual, falling off somewhat in long wools and showing an increase in Shropshires. The quality of the exhibits is very high, and many favourable criticisms were passed on some of the pens. The number of entries in the pig section is small, but the quality of most of the exhibits is excellent.
The exhibits of dairy produce) and sundries are numerous, and excellent in condition. The judge's note stated that the general quality of the butter exhibits was well up to the average, but tihe prizes seemed to be in the hands of six or seven out of the whole of the exhibitors.
