SPECIAL. London, October 2. Wells, father of the famous Australian explorer, is dead. The prosecution of tho Earl of Galloway for assaulting a girl has been abandoned. Tho Australian mails which were on board one of the trains wrecked by collision in a tunnel at Ariano, in Italy, have been rescued, but their delivery will be delayed. Tillett, chairman of the Dock Labourers' Union, is assisting the Rotterdam strikers to organise. It is reported that a clue has beon found to the Whitechapel murderer, and the arrest of a medical man is hourly expected. It is announced that there is a surplus of £7000 from tho strike fund after retaining £2000 in hand for relieving cases of distress which may arise. The executive desire formally to thank tho Australian colonies for their magnificent contributions, and to elicit thair wishes as to tho disposal of the balance. It is suggested that the monoy should be utilised for the formation of a universal labour federation, including Australia. The majority of the Directors of the Colonial Union Company have agreed to transfer tho business to the Tyser Line (Limited), giving shareholders 5 per cent debentures of Tyser's in exchange for shares in the Colonial Union. A minority of shareholders in the latter are opposed to the transfer, and are applying for an injunction. . Paris, October 2. The Cabinet have decided to prosecute L'lntransigent for asserting that military funds have boon applied to electoral purposes. Constantinople, October 2. The Emperor and' Empress of Germany arc now on a visit to this city.
