According to an' Order-in-Council "by the Governor, the fishing season for trout, carp and perch in tho'.Wangamti and Waitotara; district opens on Nov. Ist. There have been several suggestions that the season should open earlier, but unless the Order-in-Council is rescinded this could not be feasible. The Friendly Societies' Picnic Contmittee held their usual fortnightly meeting last night in the Oddfellows' lodgeroom, After the usual routine business, a letter was read from Mr Burr, granting the use of his grounds for the picnic, for which the secretary was instructed to thank him. It was resolved to ask each Friendly Society interested, to form a tableau, as a means of making the procession more attractive than in former years. It was also resolved, to have a concert in town after the picnic. The secretary of the Art Union Committee reported that prizes to tho value, .of £245 10s, have been purchased, and that the drawing will take j>laco at Matarawa
