She was also the dam of Montrose, g.g , Bire cf Mr Wall's Pride of Scotland. Empress has been exhia bited seven times, taking three first and four ' second prizes. Empreas is fall sister to Emperor, who h?a been the champion horse of Otago for many years. In 1881 he ivaa . selected by the Kaapdale Society, at the Dunedin Show, to travel in their district. ' Napoleon's sire, oeorg3 Buchanan, by Tom, who gained the premium at CuDaf, Fife, was bred by Mr Buchanan, Coldrach, out of his prize mare, who gained a number of first prizes at Drymen Show, an^ likewise the Highland Society's prize of £10. Napoleon, when two years old, gained the first prize at fiuchlyvie and Ghrfcmore Agricultural Society, 's Show ; when three years old, the Inverary premium to serve mares in that district, and the following year the premium ia the southern district of ForEarshire ; and after travelling a number of seasons in Otaga, where he had been successful both in the stud and show ring, he was sold for £400 to to Wm. Boag, E.g., Canterbury, where he was victorious ia the show ring for three successive years. Empress, her dam Nanor, imported by W. H. Welpy, Esq., and bred by Alexandsr Findlay, Jfisq., Sandyhills, Bailliestona. She was got by the celebrated Gr\rvars horse and her dam JVan, by Scotsman, tbe property of Mr Jameß Kirkwood, Kilmars. Nancy was first Bhown as a 3-year-old in 1853, when she took firat prize at Hamilton, \ first prize at Bailliestone, second at Glasgow, and second at Kil bride, and the follow* iDg year shown as a brood mare at Glasgow and Kilbrid», where she received similar honours. His sire, "Sfounp; Prince of Wales, by Drew's Prince of Wales, by General, by Sir Walter Scott by Old Clyde, by Scotchman, by Champion, which takes us fully fifty yeara back amongst the grand old sires of Clydesdale blood of Scotland.
