She was also the dam of Montroee, g.g , sire cf Mr Wall's : Pride of Scotland. Empress has been exhi« 1 bited seven times, taking three first and four second prizes. Empress is full sister to Emperor, who h«"8 been the champion horse of Otago for many years. In 1881 he was .solected by the Kuapdale Society, at the Dnnedin Show, jio travel in their distriot. Napoleons sire, oeorg3 Buokanan, by Tom, who gained the premium at Cupar, Fife, was bred by Mr Buchanan, Coldraoh, out of his prize mare, who gained a number of first prizes at Drymen Show, and likewise the Highland Society's prize of £10. Napoleon, when two years old, gained the first prize at Buchlyvie and Q-artmore Agricultural Society 's Show j when three years old, the Tnverary premium to serve mares in that ciistriot, and the following year the premium iv tte southern district of Iforfarshire ; and after {impelling a number of seasons in Otago, where he had bsen successful both iv the etud and aliow ring, he was sold for £400 to to Win. Boag, Eg., Canterbury, where he was victorious in the show ring for three successive years. Empress, her dam Nanoj, imported by W. H. Welpy, Esq., and bred by Alexandsr Findlay, Jfisci., SandyhiUa, Bailliestone. She was got D y the celabrated G*rvary horse and her dam Jtan, by Scotsman, the property of Mr James Kirkwcod, Kiimars. Nancy was first shown as s. 3-year«old in 1853, when she took first priza at Hamilton, first prize at Bailliestone, second at Glasgow, and second at Kilbride, and the follow* ing year shown as a brood mare at Glasgow and Kilbride, where Bhe received similar honour?. His eire, Young Prince of Waleß, by Drew's Prince of Wales, by General, by Sir Walter Scott by Old Clyde, by Scotchman, by Champion, which takes us fully fifty years back amongst the grand old sires of Clydesdale blood of Scotland. Lord Nelson, when a yearling, took first prizes at Oamaru and Ta'ieri shows in 1878, and as a 2-year-old first at Giristchuroh and second at Oame?u and Dunedia Shows Lard Nelson took first prize at the "Wairarapa Pastoral Society's Shovrs, 1883, 1864, and 1885.
