THE MARTON CRICKET MAT CH.

TO THE EDITOR ■ Sib, — In your report of our match with Marton in this morning's issue, ib ia stated that " There was nothing remarkable about the match, except the very bad fielding of the college boys." This was not> the case and either your reporter is grossly ignorant o£ the game of cricket,, or else he was not present at the match on which he reported. If some oe the eleven were not bo smart in the Held as usual, at any rate, the team, us a whole, fielded well, considering the ground was lively, aid they have been usad Utterly to a very slow ground. Marton only obtained three exiras while we, on the other hand, scored twelve, whioh shows we were not asleep. This, however, ia not meant to reflect on the fielding of the Mnrton team, which was decidedly good, The school has ofcen won matches with muoh worse fielding. As a matter of fact, Marton now has a team from v/hich your reporter could well learn a few wrinkles, so as in future to be able to report on cricket matches more accurately. 1 may add that the feature of the mutch. waSi undoubtedly, the batting of JRidloy ; so good a bat as whom it would be difficult to find in this colony, His departure for England in a very snort time will be a great loss to Marton cricketera. Hawke and Temperley were both well on the wic\et, but so too were our bowlers until Ridley broka the bowling. — I am, &0., T. GUEBIE, Hon. Sec. Collegiate School 0.0. . October 31 B fc, 1887.
