Various were the surmises set afloat respecting the project, and all kinds of rumours gained currency anent the new departure. It now •transpires (says the correspondent of the Otago Daily Times) that Sir Julius adopted the simple method of transacting this financial business in the colony inst ad of going fur afield in search of cash. He ma-ie an arrangement with the Bank of New Zealand whereby fcbat institution to advance the num of £600/03 at 'he fo'lowing rates: — £%QO,OOO at 6 per -ent., and £400,000 at 5 per cent. The •rr*ngement, of course, holds sood with the now Ministry, and the money will be operated upon next month in order to keep the colonial pot boiling.
