Boss, fore man, was also in attendance. — Mt^ißaLson stated that he had called the naeelin|f?H at the request of a number of rftiffpaydtaiH to consider the state of the Kiver JBaafc -r Road, and also the question of ;er«oSo^ v a new bridge over the Maiabngaoiisift creek. He pointed out that with the ordinary rates of the riding, they would be unable to ereot a bridge, ond : ' to do the other necessary works, and ". he would advise that they borrow v suffioient money under the I/ooal Bodies Loans Act. It would be as well to do other necessary work* while putting v$ '*'*' the bridge, In round numbers, the sums required for works would be £iOQ, „ If this sum were to be borrowed, it ' would necessitate the imposition of a , rate of £20 per annum. If the rate • were over the whole riding, they oould impose a rate without colleof ing it, and! pay it from the ordinary rates, but. he understood that another part of tha riding wished to borrow. He pointed, jiufc that if they borrowed under the Local Bodies Loans Aot, they would have <> pay £20 a year for 26 years, whioh would wipe away both prinoipal and interest. In answer to a question by Afc? Davey, Mr Poison stated that thei : amount of the rates oolleoted from the ridiug was £150, but there jwere certain, charges which would have to come .out' of it. Mr Poison wsihed to find out whether the whole riding was in favour of borrowing.— Mr JSeilson stated that the upper part of the ziding wished to borrow £500, but they would object to the River Bank portion borrowing if the whole of the riding had to be rated, as they seldom used the , Biver Bank Road. — The Chairman said that the whole of the oourity had to keep in repair the main roads, and as each riding had to get its money, the re. lief would only be temporary .-« Mr Davey thought it was rather heavy on the one riding to hava to keep in repair two such expensive bridges as thoEe oa the River Bank Boad, a id he thought the whole of the county should bo rated for it. — Mr Filmer thonght it would be beat for the whole riding to borrow the " sum neoessary for tboir works, and allocate it t > each portion of the riding. It would take a good time to get the money under tha Local Bodies Loans Act, as there were neiwse^ry firm&lUiea to OQDap)y --vuh. IU-- FUtaor. poiat^

out that if the ra.epapera wished 1 borrow under this act they had bett< do bo at once as there would just t time to get tho application in befoi January, and to comply withe statutor formalities. — Mr Patereon thought tha all should be rated for the bridges o; the Biver Bank Boad, as, with the es ception.of a few large holders, very fe\ benefited by it the greater portion o Jjhe riding not using the road at all."■"•^jrhe Chairman thought that borrowin) would be much' chasper than for th court to do., the work, Ii they bor rowed under the Local Bodies Loan Aot the necessary rate to be impose* Would be under 3d. — Mr Davey though the county had better erect the bridge and leave the roads as they are. — Mi Filmer 'moved, That a committee bi appointed to asoertain the feeling o the ratepayers : of < this riding, and ti report to a meeting of the council oi tbe 16th iSFbvember. — Seconded by Mi Neilson and carried.— Messrs Paterson Tilly, Heileon, and Davey were ap pointed a committee to carry out thi \ foregoing resolution. — Mr Tilly aekec '" if a temporary bridge to take horsei and cattle would be ereoted. — Th< Chairman stated .that they had bettei erect a temporary struoture. — A vote o; thanks to' the ohair terminated tbc proceedings.
