The Govern ment of South Australia have decided that thoy must decline to be pledged to share in the expenses of the annexation of New Guinea, pending the decision by the Imperial Government on the question of the proposed annexation or rtrotectorate. (Beoeived^Juno 26, 8 p.m.) BBISBANE. June 26. The Queensland Parliament opened to-day by the Acting Governor. In his speech on the occasion his Excellency stated that the agreement which had been provisionally made with the syndicate for the construction of the transcontinental railway would be submitted for approval and ratification. The action which had been taken by the Government regarding the annexation of Now Guinea, was under consideration by the Imperial Government, but had not yet been sanctioned. Regulations for promoting and controlling the importation of Indian coolies would be submitted for approval, and, if adopted, would provide a satisfactory solution the eaibarrasiiig questions with re" gard to the present position of the supply of labour. 'The demand lor land had been well maintained during the present year, and continued without abatement . The negotiations for ao-<.•-l^rating ilio T'ostal s-c-i vice, betwoim Kurope and the colony had been brought to a satisfactory termination, and

arrangements had boen made with the British India Steam Navigation Company for expediting the transit of mails. The establishment of a fortnightly service from- the end of the current year had also been decided upon. Tin question of immigration had been considered, and measures were being adopted to promote the introduction of a suitable class of immigrants. In conolusion hiß Excellency offered congratulations upon the rapid progress of the colony and its sound financial condition.
