AproiNiaiENT Committee.— The following minutes of the mesting of the appointment committee were read and approved:— lie Mrs Browne: Mr Foulis's siatement regarding Mrs Browne was read. Mrs Browne was called, and the statement, was read over to her, and she gave an explanation, in reply to several questions put to her by the members. — iloved by Mr Bridge, seconded by Mr liuker, aud carried, That Mr Foulis be directed to meet Mrs Browne at the Hoard office at 2 o'clock, to give an explanation respecting the charge against her, and that he appoint someone to supervise during his absence from the pupd- teachers' examination.— Letters 1 and 2 from the Foxton Com- , mittee re assistant teacher read. — Moved by Mr, Taplin, seconded by Mr , Baker, and carried, That the refusal of . the Board to entertain Mrs Stewart's application -fur a permanent appointment is based upon a regulation of the Board applying to the whole educational district. Furtner, that this Board consider that Mis Leach fulfils the conditions required by the Education Act as to' her competency to undertake the appointment at Foxton. — Letter from Feildiug Committee re teaching staff; also letter of resignation from Mrs Howling. Resolved, That Mrs Dowling's resignation be aecepted. — Okoia : Mr Hill's appointment confirmed. — Urofton : Mr R. JS. Dowling's appointment confirmed. — Wangaehu : Mr Slipper's letter seeking promotion received. — Marton : Miss Billing's letter applying to be removed held over. — Parawauui: Mis3 MoPhee'a applicatiox held over. Miss Crawford's name to bo .placed on the list of applicants for vacancies. — Jaines Robson, jun., applicant for teaoheiship. Reference to be made to the Nelson Board as to character^ — Ada Connell, applicant. Referred to. Inspector «for examination. Fbilding. — Mrs Browne, assistant mistress at Feilding, attended with reference to the charges of incapacity; made against her by the Inspector a.o last meeting. Tho Inspector was in attendance. The Board went into con* mittee to consider tho matter. On tiny Board resuming it was reported that the Committee had come to the following resolution, which was agreed to : — That Messrs Bridge, Baker, and Carson be appointed a committee to visit the Feilding schooLto examine Mrs Browne's work in the infant department ; to report at next meeting. Two to form a quorum. Resolved, That the notice dismissal to Mrs Browne be 'withheld until next meeting. Oitoui. BniD&E.— Letter from Mr Simpson. - The Secretary was instructed to refer Mr Simpson to resolutions o£ tho Board previously forwarded to him Pupil Teachehs.— Letter from Mr Rotheram stating that no reduction i a tares could be made in the case of pupil teachers coming in to Wangauuij f or examination. Matabawa. — Letter re teacher's residence. — Held over till next meeting ; Mr.Baker to report. — Letter from Committee, that they had raised £15 towards if the Board would contribute .the j£ls balance required. — Agreed to. , : Halcombe. — Application for a sum of j£7, for drainage purposes. — Granted. j:\iOTAXi. — Application for a grant for -school necessaries. — Agreed to vote £3 ilSs. -; Poeewa. — Application for a grant of 'EZO.'towards a suuvof £30 required for erecting two sheds' for shelter dtiring recess time in bad weather. — Resolved, i That the Board have no funds available ~\>i the purpose. ; CARNABVON.-r-Application for a new SoKool,;f-ThB Secretary was instructed to request applicants to supply the usual information.. r.OBOTTA Downs. — Application for a teacher, and for the Board to grant the ' capitation allowance toward payment of said;: teacher's salary, applicants undertaking to provide a building for the school. — It was agreed to recommend a teacher and pay the capitation if the applicants would b& responsible for the tkaoher's salary. Tkuakt Insfeotoe. — The Truant Inspector reported that during the month he had visited the following schools and towhships :— Kaitoke, Wangaehu, Tura- , Wha, Marton, Crofton, Bulls, Sandon, Awahuri, Paimerston North, Btoney Creek,.. Fpxton, Otaki, and Halcombe. From each school 'he had obtained a list of irregular attendants.- He had found great laxity of attendance in Bulls, Fox. ton, Halcombe, and Paimerston North. In the latter ' township there ■ 7?ere.B6 scholars on the books who only averaged half time. The Halcombe -School Committee had appointed him their clerk, In order that he might be in apposition to prosecute. — The report was received. — r It was resolved to , request A. McGregor, Esq., and K. .Wilson; Esq., of Wellington, to prepare , the papers- in Latin and French for the forthcoming examinations for scholars ships'aud in extra subjectc, in Augnst ; Xnext. The Inspector to prepare the '■ papers in Euclid and Algebra. ,Extea Subjects. — Sir William Fox and the Rov J. Ross were appointed a committee to report on tho number of divisions in which the extra subjects should be taught in the Wanganui High Schools. •: Fbilding. — Resolved, That the Exe cutive Committee co-operate with| the Feilding School Committee in endeavouring to get a proper supply of teachers for the. school", by the time the school opens after the holidays. , 'Ko Hi ; — Application for certain necessaries. — Left- to Mr, Bridge to deal with.
