IMPORTANT TO BANKRUPTS.

(per united press association.) Nelson, June 22. Tn the Supreme Court to-day application was made for the discharge of John McLean, a bankrupt. Mr Haddow opposed, on the ground that the bankrupt had conducted his business in a reckless manner, keeping no books, and never knowing his position, his want of oandor in raaking his statemonta, and his conduct in canvassing for proxies. After a long examination of the bankrupt, his Honor said he was thoroughly impressed that there was no actual fraud. The bankrupt had been carrying on extensive business without hooks, and the creditors were unable to obtain the information to which they were entitled. He believed the bankrupt was quite free from anything like fraudulent conduct, but still he felt bound to mark the sense of the Court that the bankrupt was in default in the matter of hook keeping. He had considered the fhct, that the Wellington creditors were favourable to his discharge, but a minority iv Nelson were absolutely opposed. He felt bound to mark the fact that there was not a single word to show the bankrupt's position, and ho skould do so by suspending his discharge for twelve months from the Ist of January last. Ho hoped this would have tho effect of showing bankrupts that when they came to that Court they must be prepared to show their position.
