I BroKKBS : i Messrs Williamson and Co. ; SECBEXrt»y (pro loin.) : : George Bell Williamson. .'. The special purposes for which this Company is established are thus stated in the Memorandum of Association : — (a) To carry on the business of ■ Woollen Manufacturers in all or " any branches of woollen manufacture, and whether the rcanufaofactured articles are wholly or in ! part only composed of wool, and I [ to manufacture garments, cloth - i ing, and other articles from the . • materials aforesaid, and to deal in ! all such manufactured materials, I goods, and articles in such manner as the Directors may from time to 1 tiiho think desirable. (J.) To buy wool and other materials 1 . for use in manufactures aforesaid or for salei and to prepare the same for sale, either for manufacturing purposes or otherwise, and to purchase and sell woollen manufac- . tured goods of every description whatsoever, and whether wholly or in part composed of wool, (e) To purchase any rights patented or otherwise, and. to take out any .patent or patents connected with the business of tho Company as the Directors shall think proper, The Directors having power to do all acts necessary to give effect to theße objects. The importance and even necessity to this locality of such an undertaking cannot be questioned. No similar institution exists in the North Island, which is thus wholly dependont for its supplies upon the Woollen Factories of the South Island and upon imports. It is moderately estimated that the quan--1 tifcy of material of the classes proposed to be . manufactured, which would Jind au immediate outlet, would yearly exceed £250,000, an amount sufficient to yield a very handsome dividend upon the capital of the Company. The special natural advantages possessed by this district for carrying on and trading in manufactures of the classes proposed must of themselves form an essential element in the success of the Company, and give assurance that it will be able successfully to emulate the prosperity of other factories already in operation in tho South Island. The Directors do not venture to afford any data upon which to ground anticipations of- .profit, but confidently appeal to the success which has attended the operations of the' Kaiapoi and Mosgiel Woollen Coni- : panies as offering a reasonable guarantee that the present . undertaking will, under careful management, not be behind them in the returns it will yield. It may here be mentioned that the dividends already paid by the above Companies have proved that there 13 ample room -for the extension of the woollen industry, and the Directors do not hesitate in recommending the present enterprise to the attention of persons requiring a legitimate investment foe their money, whilst the advantages which they enjoy of being able to avoid errors necessarily arising I from inexperience, justify a hope that the I works of the company will be established at a reasonable cost. Applications for shares, in the form annexed, may be made to the Secretary, at Wellington, either directly or through the brokers of the Company or any of their agents. Every application must be accompanied by the required deposit, or by a receipt from any branch of the Colonial Bank I for the amount of such deposit.
