Duichess wa3 bought by liobert Stsvenson, Esq., Otago, for tho sum of £150, being one of the best mures in Tasmauia Dutchess won second uriz' ut Ea^t Taicri in 1869 against all come s, hsr daughter Bella was t c winner of 21 first piizes in Otago. Bella was sod to M r W. Holly of Christchurch, where she s;a ; ned the first prize three yeara in succession against imported in ares from Victoria and Scotland. Jean's dam Dutchess, also produced the celebrated horses, Blair Athol, Lord Glasgow, and Surprise. The two latter were successful prize lakers, and out of the same stock are the celebrated m ares Mattie and Effie Deans. Sod at Mr Stevenson's pale in 1876 to Mr Kitchen, of Moa Flat Station, Olago for the sums of £175 and £135, alsi two 1 year old BUies for -6115. Jean's Sire, Sir Colin Campbell, imported from Scotland to Tasmania by James Ross, Esq. Sir Colin won four first prizes; before leaving Scotland in 1859 he gained the first prize at the Longfoed Northern Show, beating seventeen horses, nine of which were imported, and many other prizes too numerous to enumerate. Sir Col;n Campbell was bred by Mr ait, Velerinary surgeon, near Banff,, out of the Evrl of Seafield, mare Betsy, (winner of many first prizes, and in 1864 was styled " Inviucible,") sire Glenelg, also the property nf Mr Tait, by theunrivalle horse, Balmoral, grand Sire Old Stitchem, the property of Sir James Graham, of Netherby, whose stock is celebrated all ver Scotland. Clansman's swe.out of far famed horse. Emperor, out of Nancy, by the imported horsi-, Napoleon. Nancy bred by Alexander FinJlay, Esq., Glasgow — Nancy was got by the celebrated horse, Gavary, »nd her dam by Scotsman, the property of J o mes Kirkwood, Kilmaurs. Nancy was first shown as a three-year old, and got first prize at Hamilton, first prize atßallinston; second at Glasgow, and second atKilbride , s'io was next shown as a brood mare at Glasgow and KilbriJe, where she also gained first prized. Emperor is the most successful sire ever in New Zealand, and wherever «hown gained first honours. His stock commands the highß&t price of any sire in Otago ; as a proof, he haa trave led the Tideri District for 13 years in succeslion and last year had over 100 mares. Clansman, as will be seen, is descended from the purest Clydesdale blood ever imported out of Scotland; he has proved himself a sure foul getter, and bia stock are now coming to the front. A 2-year old colt by him being first prize taker at the last Hawke's Bay show. First-class paddocks provided for mares from'a distance. All care tali en, but no responsibility.
