■;' ; r -"■ WOOLMABKET. Under date November 2nd; the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, report : — : ' MniLadvioes from London oonveyingtne re- nits of the first fortnight's sales at the AuKnat-Sep-tember'series, fully oonflrm the cabled reports received and published by us at the time. Tor combing merino, the demand was poed, and puces ruled on a par with those current at the close ol the previons sales ; but for oross-breds— especially the coarser descriptions— the market was weaker, and former rates were not obtainable i just prior to the departure of the mail; however, the demand for this class of wool had improved, and. a; slight enhancement in values resulted.! Shearing has been prosecuted with vigour throughout the North Ulan ' during- the pant month. Many of the large sheds on the East Coast have already completed operations, and another mcnth.,;vill find the bulk of the clip afloat. In the districts of Nelson, Marlborough, and .North Canterbury, shear ng is being pushed forward as the weather permits, but further south, a start has scircely been made, owing to the recent inclement weather, from every district we have good report of the quality of the clip, " sound in staple, well grown, and light in grease," being the general opinion arrived at. Ohristchurch— The arrivals of wool into store, and at Port, have bonn insignificant up to the present, shearing operations having been greatly retarded by the unsettled weather lately experie, ced. The sheds are now in full swing, howeveri and we anticipate large deliveries within the next fortnight. Tue first series of sales will open on the 28th instant, when about 3000 bales will be offered by. i he several brokers. It is. difficult to forecast the course of prices, as much will depend on the aspect of the Lon<ion market, and the rates ruling at the series opening on November 22nd. 1^ umerous inquiries from Australia lead to the supposition that foreign buyers will be largely represented at the opening series, from which circumstance we anticipite keen competition especially, for strong combing wools, "which are ° this year co deficient in Australia. ■Wellington — Shearing operations have now fairly commenced, and tbe parcels' to hand have realised our anticipations so far of a favourable season, the staple being bright and free from the tenderness which was so marked a feature in last year's clip. '!he first sale of the season will take place about the middle of the month. tiisborne— The clips now cming to hand are below the average in weight, but are of good quality. Auckland— Small lots in sa' ks have sold at 5d to 6|d per lb. Inyero rgill— There is no change to report in this imirket. Shearing operations will commence abont'tho middle of November. Throughout the past month we hive experienced some very stormy weather, which has affected the lambiDg ; but it is now taking up, and a fair increase is still hoped for. ■-.
