The Orangemen of the Auckland lodges marched in regalia yesterday to the Alexandra-street Church, where a commemoration service was conducted by the Grand Chaplain, the Eev. T. W. Dunn. A requisition is being got up to get Mr N. W. Woddell, the senior City Councillor, to contest the Mayoralty with Mr J. M. .Clark. Mr Woddell is opposed to the introduction of the Contagious Diseases A ct. The body found on the Takapuna Beach has been identified by A. King as that of one of the seamen lately drowned by the capsizing of the boat of the ship Ashmore. The decomposed body of a man, minus head, legs, and arms, was found near Lake Takapuna yesterday. A meeting of the native, chiefs was held last night, after Mr Bryce's departure, when it was decided to send for Eewi to consult on the situation. The Supreme Court was opened this morning by Mr Justice Gillies. There were only three cases for trial. John , Danehey, indicted for having stolen a . silver watch from John Mulholland, at Normanby, was found guilty, and sentenced to two years' hard labour. J. Hislop, alias O'Connor, for forgery and uttering, was sentenced to 12 months. The charge of murder against Antonio Gtschnell, who is supposed to be insane, will be taken to-morrow. ; WELLINGTON. '. November 6. The first meeting of the Middle Island Trunk Bailway Extension Commission was held to-day. The proceedings were formal. Upwards of IGOO shares in the New Zealand Tobacco Company have been applied for. Mr W. Mitchell, of the Hansard staff, has been appointed reporter to the Middle Island Trunk Eailway Extension Commission. CHEISTCHUECH. November 6. Mr R. Faike, an old resident of Leithfield, is missing. It is supposed he has been drowned in the river Kowai. The Middle Park Company's imported stallion King of the Clubs, who received injuries through being cast loose in his bo's, has had to be killed. From an inch and a half to two inches of rain fell during the recent southwester. One record makes it 145 inches, another 199. The fall for the whole of last month was only -24 inches. DUNEDIN. ; • November 6. Mr Dick, the Colonial Secretary, leaves Dunedin on Wednesday for Christchurch. Mr James Seaton, M.H.E., will be entertained at a banquet by his constituents on the 31st inst.
