CRICKET.

COLLEGIATE SCHOOL V. TJPOKO:NGA^OCEICKBT CLUB. On ; Saturday 'afternoon a match was played- between, the. Collegiate School Club' and the Upokongaro Cricket Club in Mr . Hay ward Owen's grounds at Waipakura., The. boys left town at 10 o'clock -in two brakes kindly provided by Mr Hayward Owen for the conveyance of the visitors to the ground. Plajr commenced Shortly before 12. The visitors winning 'the toss, elected to send their opponents to the wickets. The local innin*gs' ; was ; short, and sweet, for before one o'clock every wicket was disposed of for a'tptaT of 33, the bowling of Hammond' md Kutherford proving too strong for tKe local, men.. An' excellent lunch was ,'then provided in the grounds adjoinijig'the.house by Mr Owen, to which, ample .justice" was done.' Play was resumed; at, 2.15, Halcombe and Eutherford, going, to -.the wickets. Halcombe was disposed of by a very clever lefthanded catch, by J; .W." Anderson, but EutKerford soon mastered the local bowling,'and succeeded in putting together the creditable "score of 20. Woon for 16 and Tolly 14 played well for the school, andj'or^the last wicket falling, the boys had 'succeeded in putting together 76. The 'local, men again going to the wickets only^ scored 40, leaving the school winners by three runs and one innings. Wicksteed's bowling in the second innings deserves special mention, taking six wickets for; 12. runs. • Stumps "were' drawn at: five, o'clock, and three hearty cheers.Trere given' by the school; for Mr Owen and thelbsers.- The weather was fine throughout, and a fair attendance of visitors appeared on the ground.
