Malting barley is firm at 5s 2d to 5s 4d ; wheat, weak at 6s Id ; New Zealand oats quiet at 4s 2d to 4s 4d for feed, and 4s 5d to 4s 6d for milling. SYDNEY. November 2. In]the Legislative Assembly last night, the Hon. James Watson introduced the financial statement. After referring to the increasing prosperity of the colony, he stated that the revenue for the past year amounted to £7,160,914, and that there was a surplus of £1,827,695; estimated revenue for next year, £7,356,200, with a credit balance of £589,351. It is proposed to remit a number of specific duties on household requisites and builders' and manufacturer's materials. Further railway construction to the extent of 700 miles will be proposed, besides various oxtentions of the tramway system. It will not be necessary, as was supposed, to float .another loan at the end of next year. The Treasurer concluded by statingthat the revenue for 1882-83 may probably reach eight millions. The debate in the Legislative Assembly on ;the ' Colonial Treasurer's financial statement has been postponed for a week. BRISBANE. November 2. The Legislative Assembly has passed a vote o£ £70,000 for defence purposes. The estimate includes the purchase of two gunboats.
