It consists of a small ladder along which a plank had been pliced. Nearcachenda handspike had been securely fastened aero ir, and round the whole, long lifeboat floa's had been attached by being fashed to the projecting ends of the ladder and the handspikes. Frail as it looked, it really was not so in actual faot, but possessed no little strength and buoyancy, as may be believed, when we state that the sailor had net only brought himself safe y on shore on it, but a tub containing his clothes and other private belongings. On landing on the wharf he was noticed by the night-watchman, but m naged to get clear of the town,' and despite the efforts of the police, up to Tuesday evening bad i ot been captured.
