When the steamer passed the lightship at 7 p.m. Captain Webstei slowed the engines, preparatory to running up to the wharf. He evidently did not allow lor the strength of the tide, and before way coMd ba got on the steamer again, the tide 'si wed her oat of the channel on to -the rocks, =between; the lightship and the Ocean Chief, She went on without bumping, and lay quietly while the tide receded. The starboard anchor was let -go, and held well. The tide turned at 9 o'clock in the morning 1 , and at 10,30 she floated off quietly ana steared alongside the wharf, A direr went "down- and . examined her bottom, bnt the water was too thick to enable a trustworthy examinat ion to be made, Examination mode inside shows - , fthreo large dents, with the cemeut broken, The cement has been clear,* d away, bnt there are no signs of a hole anywhere. The v«sa' lis making ~ no water, and-t has been decided to go back to Dun- din, and for the Botorua to takeher trip.
