ODD FELLOWS' ANNIVERSARY.
The Loyal Wanganui Lodge of Odd Fellows celebrated their twentieth, arm" ' yeraary last ' night r at ; the 1 i Princess Theatre. About 300 ladies and gentle-, men. sat down to tea,- this : ball being handsomely and appropriately .'deco-rl rated in honour of the occasion.; The usual dainties having beenbeen satisfactorily disposed of (and 'the yourigf ladies who ministered to the. popular wants should have a word of grateful.recognition) the body of the theatre was| . cleared, 1 and a capital' entertainment' then took ' place. The theatre was tolerably well filled, and the Odd Fellows may congratulate themselves: on a thorough appreciation of the part they play in.' social society. .The Wanganui; Rifles' Band attended, and discoursed sweet music during the evening in their' accustomed style. The programme of the entertainment was somewhat varied. " Furnished Apartments", is. a, ■farce, which taxes severely tho talents of any amateur, and it is compliitientary /to ! iour local aspirants to his troriic fame to say that , every part in the' piece was capably filled. Mr W.J/Kainbo'w asDr 'Planus, Mr J; P; Astbury asMr'Fuggles, Mr Couchman 'as Mr* Magnus Srt|th, and' ,Mr C. M. r King as Flemaohus TKomspn, .were really . clever and , entertaining. B.ut the best andmostpromising featureo£ t thenlay was the actihgcf Master ' Ferry's Squills/ in which, his, natural powers of- amusement and genuine stage; ability were displayed ;to the fullest ad- ' vantage. Following the play came a musical melange as follows :— Song, ."The pil-1 . grim of love," Mr Catling ; comic song, Mr Q. Spriggens'; comic song, "Filz-fiz;"-' Mr Hale ; song, " The knight's reveille,',', Mrs Merritt; and "Dearly 'beloved^ ■brethren," Mr. Thomas • Ferry; -' This 1 musical interlude was by. far the.niost f amusing feature ".of the .evening,. '.es-' pecially .in t he.,c omic singing, 'element. , Mr_ .Hale (who, as^.i'a to Wanganui,. ,was greeted. .witKF.enthusiasm) sung his humorous " Fkr fiz " very well indeed, and was rewarded 1 by ; al ivocif erous encore, to . which.' .''.Patrick, mind the baby," was 'given in responie7'. The performance concluded with- the good old-fashioned farce of '-'A Suddenj Arrival,", iti. which the cast was'- as r'fpV* . 10/yvs :, — Cornelius Pocker (an old gentle-^ irian with a ; partiality for zoological iiij-'' yestigation); Mr W; J. Ward and ,Q. .Spriggens. ; ,The , perr'i formance was admirably represented, in. every way, and reflects the highest credit" upon all parties concerned. The meeting resolved itself into a select quadrille party, and dancing was 'kept up tijl anj, early hour this morning. Mr J.
