THE ii'IBST- MEETING. . (PEE UNITED PBESS ASSOCIATION.) . Auckland, 6ot 27. The Hon. Mr Bryce arrived at Alex dra at 4 p.m., and was met by Colonel Lyon and Captain Gascoigne, A.C. It ■was arranged to have the formal intro T duction meeting with Tawhaio at Captain Gascoigne's quarters, where forty of the natives, headed by Tawhaio, met Mr Bryce. Among the principal chiefs present were TeNgakau.Hone Wetere, and Pikia, of Kawhia, Hone te Ore, Te Eoihi Honana; and HaupoHto. 1 Tawhaio invited Mr Bryce to meet I the assembled natives at Whatiwhatihoe in the 'morn-, ing, so that ' the people JaigSt ", see him. Mr Bryce .accepted the' invitation, . and_ -asked Tawhaio to come in [the morning, and they could c|riv,e back together over the bridge, and then for* mally open it. fTawhiao replied that it would be • better for him to stay at his place to receive' the Native Minister as his guest. Mr Bryce replied that he could please himself as to that; but he (Mr Bryoe) would go to Whatiwhatihoe Bridge in the morning. Two natives presented Mr Bryce with handsome mats adorned with kiwi feathers' as a token ot good. will. Mr. Bryce and Tawhaio' then shook hands, and the meeting dispersed.
