The market rate of discount reducer! by i, and is now at 3|; bank rate, o per cent. New Zealand securities are firm at last quotations. Colonial breadstnffs continue quiet, but are firm at the following prices : — Adelaide wheat, ex warehouse, 495 ; New Zealand do, 43s to 465. Adelaide flour, ex warehouse, 345. Australian tallow — Bestbeof, 43s 6d ; best mutton, 4Gi. The London Chartered Bank of Australia has declared a dividend of 3 per cent, for the past half-year, and carries forward .£SOOO to the reserve fund. A severe storm has been experienced throughout England. Heavy floods have resulted therefrom and have proved most disastrous in many places, much destruction of property having occurred. In the House of Commons to-day Mr Gladstone, in introducing his motion for the reform of the procedure of the House, announced that he was determined to adhere to the first rule to be proposed — viz., that empowering the Speaker to put the question forthwith ; but he was willing to agree to some modifications of the other rules. On the motion of the Premier, precedence over all other business was given to the consideration of the new rules. PARIS. October 24. It is alleged that the Land League accounts omit receipts to the extent of £98,000. A Fenian Society of the extreme American type has been discovered at Leicester. The' question of the French evacuation of the Island of Raiatea is unsettled. The English colliers are insisting upon an advance of 15 per cent, in wages.
