Patriarch possesses Australian Sir Hercules blood through his sire, and Irish Birdcatcher blood through his dam, and his breeding cannot be excelled. He is own brother to the celebrated racehorse FitzYattendon, who carried Sir Hercules Bobinson's colours to victory so often in Australia. Days of Old, his dam, was also the dam of Rose of Australia, on* of the grandest and gamest of Australianturf performers. She ran the famous Fishhook to a head in that memorable struggle for the Sydney Cup, haying seventeen of the crack horses of the Australian colonies behind her, amongst them such celebrities as Tim Whiffler, Volunteer, Tarragon, Yattendon, Tallyrand. She is also own sister to the beautiful mare Days of Yore, champion prize-taker at the last Sydney Exhibitions, open to all the Australian colonies. Pateiaech was a very fast and game horse. His performances were to -win the Bandwick Nursery Handicap, the Victorian Bacing Club Handicap, second for the Sydney Cup, giving a year and 21bs away to the winner (got by Yattendon also), and finishing in front of Ace, Dagworth, and thirteen others. Owing to an accident as a 4-year-old he was then put to the stud. His young stock have turned out well in Melbourne, and realised high prices at the annual sales of yearlings. Terrick Tcrrick, as a 3-year-old, got by Patriarch, won several races at Deniliquin and Sandhurst. Patriarch stood two seasons in Hawke's Bay, for which district he was purchased by the well-known stud master, Mr McLean, his owner leaving Australia for England. PEEFOBMANCES. The following are some of Patriarch's performances : — At 2 years old, won A.J.C. Nursery Handicap, boating Nemo, Commodore, and a large field of other horses ; i of a mile ; time — Imin 19secs. At 3 years, ran third in V.8.0. Derby, beating Horatio and others j li miles ; time — 2mm 46secs. Spring 1872, and autumn 1873, ran second in V.E.C., beating Nimblefoot, Blue Peter, and a large field ; 14 miles ; time — 2min 21secs. Won V.B.C. Handicap, beating Nimblefoot, Barbella, Lady Clifden, and a large field ; If miles j time — 3min 13secs. Ban third in A.J.C. St. Legcr, beating Loup Garou and others. Ban second in A. J.C. City Handicap, carrying; 7st 41bs, won by The Ace, beating Priam, McCallum Mohr, and others ; 1£ miles ; time— 2min 47 2-10secs. Marshal, a son of Patriarch, the winner of the Geelong Handicap, carrying Bst lOlbs, promises to turn out one of the best hurdle racehorses in Australia.. Elon, another son of Patriarch, is now showing a bit of good form on the flat. Terms : £6 6s ; groomage, 2s 6d. Free paddocking for mares until Ist of January, 1883. This fine stylish horse shows great substance, combined with quality, and is admirably adapted to get racehorses, carriage horses, hunters, or hacks. WELLINGTON~2nd. Wellington 2nd is a bright bay, 5 years , old, of a most remarkably docile disposition ; • has a splendid top ; is very muscular, and possesses plenty of bone • and hair of the right quality ; and . for action and style there is none his equal in the district. Pedigbee. Wellington 2nd's sire the far-famed horse Old Wellington, is so well and favour ably known in this district that he needs no comment ; and I need not say that all the best and staunche3t horses on the coast are by Old Wellington, which is a fact that cannot be denied. Maggie, the dam of Wellington 2nd, is by the old favourite and well-known horse England's Hope. Maggie's dam, Kate, is by Sampson;' and Jean, Kate's dam, was a Clydesdale mare imported from Tasmania. Wellington 2nd,- as will be seen, is descended from some of the best Clydesdale blood ever imported to New Zealand. The above horses will travel between the Whenuakura and Manawapon, Teums : War Eagle, £3, single mare ; Wellington 2nd, £2 10s. Two or more mares as per agreement.
