The following particulars of the tragedy have been received :— A respeotaßle gentleman named Long, residing with, an equally respectable family named Adams, had a son who has been a prodigal and done as he liked. He returned to his father about a week ago from Auckland and Tauranga, where it is reported he had spent a considerable • sum of money. His manner since his return has been sullen and moody ; but no one suspected that he contemplated the dreadful deed which occurred early this morning. He got a revolver while his father was asleep, and putting it behind his ear, shot him through the head, the ball passing just below the brain.- Then the youth shot himself through the head in front of the ear. Ihey are both still alive, but in a critical state. Two doctors are attending them. Much sympathy is expressed in the distnot, Long being known ' as a kind gentlemen, not long from London. The doctoic believe there is hope' of the father's reoovery, but none of the son's.
