The balance of the shipment of meat ex Mataura is averaging o|d per lb. The cargo by the Ohimborazo has arrived in excellent condition, and it is thought it will meet with a ready sale. Baker Pasha, who is re-organising the Egyptian army, has, it is understood, decided that tha officers in the army shall be one -half English and one-half native October 16. Mr Parnell supports the closure proposals brought down by Mr Gladstone. The Waly of Meimoona, a town on the border between Turkestan and Afghanistan, has rebelled against the local Government authority, and has applied to the Russian Government for assistance. The Afghanistan and Turkestan Governors have seat to the authorities at Cabul asking for reinforcements. The military authorities in England are advertising for supplies to the army in occupation of Egypt until the middle of February next.
