August 10. , A scandal connected with the hospital is reported, and the Committee are holding a private enquiry into the matter yesterday and to«day.' A meeting of the Executive Committee was held at Government Houbo to-day, His Excellency presiding. The business was of the usaal routine character. A seaman named Daniels deserted from H.M.S. Kaleigh on Sunday eyen« iug, but was captured -by a constable at the Lower Hutt. He escaped by swimming from the vessel to Kaiwarra, a distance of a mile and a-half. It is probable the Carterton section of the Wellington~Masterton railway will be opened on the Ist September. Employers of labour in Mastsrton complain chat they cannot get men for bush work. The ship Benvenue Bailed for London this day. Two more Native fencers were arrested yesterday. The steamer Wallace has been laid on to convey passengers to the Okarito diggings. .
