PARIHAKA MEETING.

There was an average attendance of Natives at the monthly meeting on Monday last, but only four Europeans were present. Te Whiti made his accustomed speech, which on this occasion appears to have been more than ordinarily tame. A good deal of it was in the nature of a moral sermon, but before he concluded he cautioned his countrymen against selling their lands, and explained away what he had said on former occasions with regard to the roads on the Plains not meeting. He said he had meant that the roads would have to be taken nearer the beach, on account of a great swamp. They would never meet in the direction they were now being made. He hoped they would be finished and well metalled. Te Whiti was well received.
