FAIR PLAY.

Silt, — I have just read in your newspaper a letter purporting to be signed by one of the workmen employed by Messrs York and Cornfoot, saying it was entirely without the knowledge of any of the workmen tbat a subscription list was started for them at the Ship Hotel. Allow me to contradict this ; I was present at time when one of the said men came in, accompanied by a friend, and distinctly asked Mr Turner, the manager of the hotel, to starfc a subscription in their aid, his friend starting the list with a donation of £1. In the iuterest of fair play, I trust you will insert this denial. — I am, &c., Veritas. May 11. *
