Ashforth (Manager.); -u-:H Society's Office, Rutland Chambers. v The history of BuildiugrSpcieties in Wanganui is a record of .success, beneficial alike to borrowers au 1 in- , veators. They have enabled inauy,ip ( \ obtain by a graduated and easy B6ale J of payments a freehold property, and have provided others with a safe and ( profitable method of investment. Terminable Societies, '"hfrweSPe 1 , th their name indicates, aoou run heir course, aud it became necessary in . order to eope with the ever increi >sin^ , . demand for building operations to>,ip r augurate new Companies. . o On the terminable system in this i district two Societies bane'b'e'OT concluded, leaving three in actual operation, one of these, however, wi;l ; b,o wound up in a few months, so that f practically there are only two tram ' acting the ordinary business )f a Building Society. The experience of '.the past yearfi has shown that the time has now arrived when another Society on the terminable principle can be established Iwith a certain prospect of success. With a conscientious belief that the Wangjanui { Loan and Investment Society will 1 ' meet a growing demand, and at once enter upon a poofitable business; the £ Provisional Directors place the same 3 before the public. \ It is proposed to make an import- , ant alteration in the amount of Shares and scales of paymeuts, and in thus departing from the usual plan adopted, the Directors would point out the advantages gained thereby. By placing the value of the Shares at £10, and the monthly calls at 2s per Share, it is estimated that the Society will be enabled to terminate in six years from the date of commencement. l c '■ , As an example of the working of t the proposed Society, the following figures are given : — A borrower to the J extent of £100 would repay at the rate -of £1 16a 8d per month. for the six j years, so that at the close of the operations he will have paid in £132. :• This scale will be found to favourably com- - pare with . any similar institution in the Colony. Thefc advantage of being a Shareholder in a. Building Sqciety cannot well be estimated'. It possesses all ' the benefit of a : Savings Bank, with ettor interest, and it enables a member to take advantage of any eligible opportunity arising for the acquirement of real estate. :As a proof of the extent to which the terminable system ' has been, used in this district, it is pointed out that in three existing 1 Societies upwards of £60,000 has been . borrowed on freehold and approved j; leasehold properties. fc This Society '.; will beJ established r under the, "Building/ Societies Act,. ' 1876." By the provisions of this Act " the usual' competition lor money is abolished; { j j ' t The operations of the new Society 5 will not be solely confined to Wanga--5 nui, but will be, extended among the • established' tpwnships on this coast as [ opportunities' occur for safe invest-. -■■ meiits. <■••-'• !( '•■■ u'" The entrance;.has r been fixed at two shillings /aad sixpence for the- first ) share and.
