June 18. I Edward Plinncy, a settler at Otahuhu, was thrown from a cart on (Saturday night ; he sustained concussion of the spine and died this morning. Mr Hugh Lusk, M.H.R., is to address the electors of Franldyn on Wednesday. Two collisions have occurred in the harbour. The ferry steamer Davenport ran into the brigan tine Flirt on Saturday night, carrying away her martingale. The Flirt's jibboom swept the steamer's deck, carrying away the funnel and doing other damage. The barque Victoria, when corning in from Newcastle, ran into the schooner Christiana, which was at anchor under the .North head, at 5 o'clock on Sunday morning. The schooner is much damaged. Inquiries are to be held in both cases. Arrived — Spirit of the Dawn, barque, from London, 105 days out. The steamer Wellington was off the Mauakau bar yesterday morning, but owing to a westerly gale she has not yet crossed. The cutter Rob Roy has arrived from Samoa. v She brings news to the 3rd instant. C The Samoan chiefs, on their return, home, after their unsuccessful attempt to secure from Sir Arthur Gordon British, protectorate, commenced negotiations with the American Consul, which resulted in hoisting the stars and stripes. It is not known whether the American Consul has been authorised by his Government.
