PATEA. Oct. 20. WELLINGTON. Oct. 20. One hundred and fifty guineas additional were presented to Sir Julius Yogel, who left per Australia to-day. A large crowd, including members of Parliament, leading citizens, and some of the Ministry were on the wharf to bid him farewell. CHMSTCHURCH, Oct. 20. A man named Kiely obtained verdict in Supreme Court to-day for £150, for assault and illegal detention. Kiely was travelling on the railway, and shortly after the tickets had been collected, the guard returned, saying the ticket given by Kiely was not for full distance, and demanded the balance of his fare. Kiely denied that the ticket was his, whereupon he was forcibly l-emoved to the guard's van, but was set at liberty without comment when the train reached j Christchurch. The Provincial Solicitor gave_ notice that he would move for the verdict to be set aside on the ground of legal informality in plaintiff's declaration. DUNEDIN". Oct. 20. O. W. Ireland, son of the Melbourne barrister of that name, was sworn in a solicitor of the Supreme Court- of New Zealand. Simes, E.N., swam across the bay yesterday, for £5. He took an hour and twenty minutes. A fine reef of antimony has been discovered six miles from Outram. The Harbour Board carried a resolution that it is advisable that members should be returned by the electors of the province, who should vote by proxy. It has been decided by the Education Board that pupil-teachers of the .Normal School shall attend a course of lectures on physiology.
