R.M. COURT.
Thursday, Oct. 39, 1876. (Before R. W. Woon, Esq., R.M.) A STOWAWAY. Thomas Smith appeared to answer a charge laid against him to the effect that he had stowed himself aw.iy on board the steamer St Kilda, which vessel arrived at Wanganui from Onehunga on Wednesday night, contrary to the provisions of the Statute in such cases made and provided. The accused pleaded guilty to the information. Constable Mclvor gave evidence to the effect that Captain Flowerday, master of the St .Kilda, had given the accused in charge to him on Wednesday' evening, the •accusation against Smith being that he was a stowaway from Onehunga. Captain Flowerday had stated that he would be present at Court to prosecute, but he was not there. Tho R.M. said he would fine the accused ss, with ls 6d costs ; and, in addition thereto, he would further order that he pay to those entitled to receive the same the sum of £2, being the cost of a steerage passage from Onehunga to Wanganui. He would allow him fourteen days within which to pay the £2 ; and, should that sum not be paid at the expiration of that time, accused would be imprisoned for fourteen days. The Court then rose.
