Hides. — Until leather shipped from this port to London shows better returns, we do not look for higher rates, but there appear to bo every probability of present value being sustained. Our sales are :— Ox-hides, 20s to 30s each ; cow-hides, 13s to 22s each ; Victorian wet salted, 3d to 3^d per lb; New Zealand salted, up to 3gd per lb ; and calfskins, 5d to s|d per lb. Tallow. —The market has been steady, but at our last sale competition was not quite so brisk as usual, which leads us to believe that any alteration in value will be in favor of the buyers. An average quantity was taken for local manufacture, and the. balance for shipment to London. We quote — Superior mutton, £37 per ton f.o.b. ; mutton, £35 to £36 per ton ; beef, £32 to £34 10a per ton ; mixed, £26 to £32 per ton. Freight to London is ruling at 40s per ton. — Melbourne, October 4th,
