THE LONDON WOOL SALES

?,T.e-.?rs Jaco.rab Sou and Co., under date I<\ bruary <8. report the firpt serit-s of public sales of colonial wools for this year opened yesterday, and will last till about March 20. The attendance at these sales is an extraordinarily large oue. France being more numerously represented than our own continental customers, and we are glad again to see one or two American buyers about. Trade in the home clothing districts is rep<v te 1 f -lirly good, and stocks are light. The t one of the first two days has been decidedly "firm, prices ruling on the averagefully up to the best currency of November December lust. The Queensland, Victorian, and South Ausralian wools of the new clip show evidence of a good season, being full and sound in growth and for the most part in lighter condition than last, and for these, the French competition ha been very animated. T\ all faulty clothing fleeces there is perhaps a turn here and there in favour of the buyer from previous prices, as also in most middle combing and scoured wools ; in other descriptions any change is generally in favor of the seller. Victorian, New South Wales, and Queensland wools in grease have been briskly competed for at prices about on a par with those ol May last year, while in many cases they a/c lighter in condition. There was little in December wherewith to co npare p- e prieos of greasy South Australian, but relatively they rule a little higher now.
