THE TASMANIAN SUB-MARINE CABLE.
Flinders, 26th April,
Signals are received at intervals through the cable. It is working well - . All is apparently in perfect order. We cannot ask questions through the cable yet. The latest signals were received from the other end at five o’clock. Then all was well. Communication does not appear to have been effected with Tasmania.
The following telegram reached the Melbourne Telegraph Office on the 27th — “ Flinders, via Cape Schanck, 9 a.m.
“ A message has just been received per submarine cable, saying that they hope to lay shore end to Tasmania either to-day or to-morrow. Everything is going on well, and it is expected that the work will be finished by the end of the week. The signals are received at intervals, and are perfect. Further information will be forwarded as soon as possible.—W. Seagrave, Officer in Charge, Cable Office, Flinders.’
