LATER ENGLISH TELEGRAMS.
By way of Auckland we have the following telegrams, which reached there from India via Suez : London, March 5. A select conraittee has been appointed to inquire into the mode of conducting Parliamentary municipal elections. The principle object to be considered is whether a secret system of voting could be adopted. March 15. Orders have been issued for the distribution of the Abyssinian medals The committee of the Belgian Senate have reported in favour of adopting the Luxemburg Railway Bill. The Senate has sanctioned the subsidy. There is still great excitement in Palis. Mr Miall was elected for Bradford to-day. Obituary :—Fuad Pasha, Mrs Douglass, Mrs Forester. , , The tone of the French press towards Belgium is very threatening. 5 March 18.
In the House of Commons Mr Chichester Fortescue said that her Majesty’s Government had decided to detain 32 Fenians. Mr E. Grant Duff, in reply to Sir H. Wentworth Dilke, said that the question of the removal of the capital of India frona Calcutta was not under the consideration of the Government. M arch2l. Napoleon indisposed. Reorganisation of the army nearly completed Heavy reinforcements for the West India squadron are ordered.
MOVEMENTS OF THE PRINCE. H.M.S. Blanche, Captain Mongomerie, having on board his H.R.H. the Duke of Edinburgh, arrived in Wellington harbour early on Sunday morning. The Duke landed privately in the afternoon, and went to Government House, from whence he afterwards rode out on horseback, accompanied by his Excellency the Governor. In the evening H.R.H. entertained a select number of guests at dinner at Government House, and went on board the Galatea about half-past 11. . . At 20 minutes to 3 on Monday the Galatea tripped her anchor. His Excellency was to follow in the Challenger next day.
