Chronicle Office, April 23, 1869. AUCKLAND LIVE STOCK MARKET. [Reports for the week ending April 17.] At the Remuera Yards, on Thursday, dairy cows at their calving sold at full rates ; they brought from £lO 10s to £l3 15s; dry cows, from £7 10s to £lO. Not many store cattle were penned ; prices were higher than last week. Fat calves sold high, from 46s to 555. 73 head of fat cattle, hut not many of prime quality, were penned. At first, bidding* was dull, and prices rather lower than last week, but improved as the sale proceeded, the average price obtained being 35s the 1001 b. For the well-bred ewes there was good demand. The Newmarket Yards sale oil Monday was amply supplied with stock, and, as buyers were numerous, the result was that the sale throughout was characterized by keep competition and an advance on last week’s prices, an unusually large number changing - hands. The fat stock, being of superior quality, was eagerly sought after" 3 ; all in were sold. There was a large market of sheep, principally merinoes. Sales were difficult to effect. Half-brcds realised a slight advance on last week’s prices. The following is a list of prices : —Dairy cows, from £lO 10s to £ll 2s 6d; two-year-old steers, from £5 10s to £6 7s 6d ; three-vear-old steers, from £7 10s to £B. Beef, from 35s to 40s per 1001 b. Sheep, balf-breds, from 14s 6d to 11s ; merinoes, from Ss 9d to 11s.
