FIRE IN' AUCKLAND. On the !)th April a disastrous fire broke out in Wakefield-street, Auckland, resulting in the entire destruction of property of the value of £4,000, including a bakehouse and stores, the Claremont Hotel, a shop, several dwelling-houses, and the building known as the Protestant Hall. The Southern Cross gives it on the assertion of a butcher doing one of the best businesses in Auckland, that large quantities of diseased meat daily find their way into town, and which are reported to be unfit for human food.
