ORIGINAL POETRY.

TO PSYCHE. ON VALENTINE’S D'AY, 1864. Like rivers flowing to the sea So haste we to eternity,. As silent yet as true; Time flies apace on eagle wing, Chill winter blights the buds-of springs The grave-we eschew.. Two years have flown—and; oh ! how fast - They seem but as a dream that’s past— Since first my love I own’d. Have these revolving yearn been spent In happiness and sweet content, With love’s best blessings crowned ? Ah ! no ; 'the picture is too bright; To me they’ve been Cimmerian, uight, Without one cheering ray^ Love struggled;, hopeless, with despair ; Then follow’d never-ceasing care, More gloomy day by day. And yet, though sorrow b d my lot, Nor day nor mght art thou forgot. Dear idol of my heart; When balmy sleep my soul sets free. Then, darling, does it fly to thee, And lingers, loth to part. I ask thee not to love me now—> (Thou couldst not love this careworn brow); But, dearest, do not hate! Whate’er betide I’ll love thee stfli; To thee, through scenes of good or ill, My heart I dedicate. Ne’er may thy gentle bosom know The agonising, poignant woe Of unrequited love. May each day bring thee happiness, May every night yield some new bliss, And sorrow far remove. Philos. Wanganui, 13th February, 1864.

Holloway’s Ointment and PiUs.— Outward Infirmities.—Before the discovery of these remedies, many cases of sores, ulcers, &c., where pronounced to be hopelessly incurable, because the treatment pursued tended to destroy the strength it was incompetent to preserve, and to exasperate the symptoms it was inadequate to remove. Holloway’sYiUs’exert tlieTnost wholesome powers over unhealthy flesh or skin, without debarring the patient from fresh air and exercise, and thus the constitutional vigour is husbanded;while the most malignant ulcers* ab scesseß. and skin diseases are in process of cure. Both Ointment and Pills make the blood richer and purer, instead of permitting it to fall into, that poor and watery state so (fatal to many labouring under chronic ulcerations.
