ARRIVAL OF REINFORCEMENTS.

On Thursday the long expected reinforcements per s.s. Lady Jocelyn, from Calcutta, made their appearance in our harbour. She left Calcutta on the 8th October, but was compelled to make a considerable detour in order to take in further ballast, to the extent of 600 tons at the Mauritius, which detained her in that port 6 days, leaving on Nov. 6th ;

she is therefore 33 days from the Mauritius. Soon after the embarkation of the troops for this port a disease spread amongst the men, owing to the extreme heat of the season, and in all there have been seven deaths on board. Long before the arrival in these waters, however, the last of it disappeared, and the ship and men came in to harbour in a sound, and healthy condition, creditable alike to officers and men. During the passage there were nine additions to the number of souls on board. Of the antecedents of the 43rd Regiment of Foot we must confess ignorance ; that they merit the epithet,—the hackeyned phraee —of a fine body of fighting men there can be no question, and that they are a desirable acquisition to the gallant bands under General Cameron’s command. They are commanded by Colonel Booth, and number some 665 officers and men, 48 women, and 94 children, making a total, with the crew, of some 900 souls on board this magnificent vessel. New Zealander, Dec. 12. [We learn from a sure source that the 43rd were ordered to Raglan ]

The Armenian, with the remaining portion of the 43rd, and part of the 68th Foot, may now be daily looked for, Capt. Kerr, of the Lady Jocelyn, being somewhat surprised that, with the detour he was obliged to make, he should be the first to arrive. He likewise reports the s.s. Australian, with the last batch of reinforcements, as due in about a fortnight from this time.— New Zealander, Dec. 12.
